Hello and welcome to my Substack! My name is Alyssa and I am a writer, a tarot card reader, a teacher, an auntie-nanny, a sociologist, a tiktoker, a cat mom, a home cook, a day dreamer, an aquarius, and a visionary.
Much of my experience in this world has been characterized by observing what is, and feeling like so much more is possible. Let’s be honest; we were born into quite the sociopolitical mess. Due to long, complex histories of intersecting systems of oppression and the nuances of how these systems affect us on structural, cultural, familial, and personal levels, oftentimes the idea of untangling, healing, and fixing this world and ourselves can feel impossible. In the face of all of that, I find resiliency through visioning.
This blog is my space to process confusing, messy, and oftentimes heartbreaking realities through a lens of transformation. I sift through the rubble of our current economic, social, and political conditions looking for clues and connections that will lead us home. Home to ourselves, to humanity, to the earth, to nature, to community, and to one another. I use my formal and informal education along with the wisdom of revolutionaries that have come before me in my toolkit as I explore pop culture, the news, and my own personal journey. I believe that somewhere, in all of this mess, is exactly what we need to create the next version of this world; a version that is more interconnected, more peaceful, and more full. The version we all deserve. But in order to create it, we must have vision.
